Montgomery police initiated a death investigation on Tuesday afternoon after a man's body was found in a storage shed behind a residence off of McCarter Avenue. Police have now upgraded that death investigation to the city's 23rd homicide of 2013.
MPD and fire medics responded to a residence in the 2300 block of McCarter Avenue - not far from the old Greil Memorial Psychiatric Hospital after receiving a tip. There they found a man's body in a storage shed.
Initially police launched an investigation into the man's death. Authorities now say the death of 54-year-old Thomas Bracknell is Montgomery's 23rd homicide of 2013.
MPD says investigators have identified suspects in Bracknell's death although no arrests have been made at this time. Police believe this incident stemmed from a continuing family dispute.
Neighbors on the scene Tuesday afternoon said they were stunned seeing so many police cars in their neighborhood.
"I was actually shocked just to see all of those units down there," said Stacy Trantham, a neighborhood watch captain. "It really sort of kind of rattled me just a little bit."
Trantham said neighbors had been concerned about suspicious activity at the house over the past few months.
Bracknell's cause of death is pending examination by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
Police ask individuals with knowledge of this homicide to call CrimeStoppers at 215-STOP, Secret Witness at 262-4000, or the Montgomery Police Department at 625-2831.
