OPELIKA, AL (WSFA) -

The owner of an Opelika home has an unexpected, new carport following an SUV crash Thursday morning.

Authorities responded to an address in the 1200 block of Morris Avenue around 10:30 a.m. where they found a white SUV hanging from the side of the home.

The driver, unidentified, was transported to East Alabama Medical Center with what are said to be minor injuries.

Authorities could not confirm if anyone was inside the home at the time of the crash, though they said there were no additional injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but authorities say it appears the man lost control of the SUV after swerving to avoid an animal in the roadway.
