FORT THOMAS, KY (FOX19) -

A civilian contractor from Fort Thomas, Ky. was one of 15 people killed in an explosion that occurred Thursday in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Friends tell FOX19 that Michael R. Bradford was a 2005 graduate of Highlands High School and an Army veteran.

"Michael was a very engaging and enthusiastic personality," recalled Brian Robinson, principal at Highlands High School. "He was a guy who almost everybody really, really seemed to like and would gravitate to. He could make you smile and laugh at times that were difficult times. He just really, really connected with people."

Bradford was one of four employees of DynCorp who were working on the Combined Security Transition Command - Afghanistan (CSTC-A) when the explosion occurred. The explosion killed 15 people, including two U.S. soldiers and all four contractors. At least 35 people were wounded.

DynCorp International is a global services provider offering  aviation, logistics, training, intelligence and operational solutions.

Bradford was married to Sasha Cantrell, who was also a graduate of Highlands High School. The couple had relocated to Georgia.

Together they had been through four deployments, both with Bradford as a soldier and civil contractor. A week before he left for Afghanistan the couple found out they were expecting a son.

FOX19 reached out to Sasha Cantrell, Bradford's wife, to which she responded with this email about her husband:

We were best friends before we were in love. There was never a doubt in my mind that he was going to be the best father. Michael was so smart. He could have taught our son so much. Our son Michael Junior, who is due to arrive the end of June, will grow up knowing what a wonderful person his father was and how he sacrificed his life for our country.

His father, Gary 'Moose' Bradford, lives in Fort Thomas and his mother, Linda Faulker Bradford, lives in Tennessee.
