BESSEMER, AL (WBRC) -

The Alabama Department of Corrections is investigating a deadly stabbing of an inmate in a Bessemer facility from Sunday.

ADOC officials report that Anthony Jones, 54, was stabbed during a fight with another inmate at the Donaldson Correctional Facility. Jones was pronounced dead from his injuries at approximately 8:07 p.m. Sunday, May 19.

Another inmate, 63-year-old Albert James Evans is in custody as a suspect in the stabbing.

Jones was pronounced dead at approximately 8:07 p.m. Sunday, May 19. Officials say they have recovered a prison-made knife believed to have been used in the crime.

Jones had served more than 25 years of a life sentence for manslaughter out of Jefferson County. Evans is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for attempted murder in Jefferson County. Evans has served 14 years, 10 months and 11 days of his sentence.

ADOC says the Department of Investigation and Intelligence Division is investigating Jones' death. His official cause of death will be determined in an autopsy performed by the Department of Forensic Sciences.
