TUSKEGEE, AL (WSFA) -

Macon County authorities are searching for teenagers they say fired multiple gun shots into the air following a high school graduation Wednesday night.

It happened on Tuskegee University's campus.

"I think it's ridiculous," says Sylvester Collins, whose nephew graduated the night of the incident.

"I was not happy with hearing that," adds Macon County Board of Education member Mary Hooks.

Macon County Superintendent Dr. Jacqueline Brooks says people were milling about outside the building after the students graduated. And then, someone started shooting.

"That's a time to display that education, that knowledge, that intelligence," adds Collins.

He hasn't spoken with his nephew since the incident, but Collins has a message for the perpetrators.

"You want to get with that lifestyle, it has consequences."

Notasulga High School holds its graduation ceremony Thursday night.  Officials say there will be added security there. Community members say it shouldn't have to be this way.

"These are young people who have accomplished quite a bit and they want to celebrate. And they want to celebrate in peace," adds Hooks.

Hooks doesn't like it, but agrees the extra security is a must these days.

"Just as a precaution."

No one was injured during the incident. Officials tell us multiple people witnessed it. No word on if the suspects are students.
