SHAWNEE, KS (KCTV) -

It was a wild night after a liquor store robber shoved two people into a cooler, got into a shootout with police and drove the wrong way on Interstate 70 before crashing into a Fed-Ex truck.

The suspect, who is recovering in a Kansas City area hospital, is believed to be responsible for a string of robberies in which the suspect used zip-ties to bind the hands of his victims.

Antwan Tyrone Robinson, 26, was charged with aggravated robbery, and his bond was set at $250,000. He is a suspect in 14 robberies in 5 cities.

He was charged with the robbery of the Halftime Liquor Store at 15810 Shawnee Mission Pkwy., which was robbed at 8:35 p.m. Two people inside the store were ordered into the business' cooler by the suspect. Neither were injured.

Police were quickly notified and began to pursue a black Chevrolet Cobalt that the suspect was believed to be in.

The pursuit went from Shawnee to Kansas City, KS. Officers lost sight of the vehicle but continued to patrol the area in hopes of seeing the vehicle again.

About 12:15 am., police said they spotted the suspect vehicle again and began to pursue the suspect along Interstate 435. The chase wound into Shawnee where officers joined the chase near I-435 and Johnson Drive.

"The pursuit continued west on Shawnee Mission Parkway and then north on K-7 Highway," according to news release from Shawnee police. "As the suspect attempted to get off of K-7, he lost control of his vehicle. Shots were fired by Shawnee officers as they attempted to take the suspect into custody."

The suspect regained control of his vehicle and began driving westbound on I-70 in the eastbound lanes, nearly striking several oncoming vehicles.

The Cobalt finally slammed into a Fed-Ex vehicle on I-70 about 1.5 miles west of K-7. The suspect jumped out of his vehicle and ran on foot before he was taken down by officers, according to the news release.

Detectives continue to investigate, and no charges have been filed. Bonner Springs and KCK police departments are assisting the Shawnee Police Department in the investigation.
