MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Memorial Day has a special significance for many Montgomery families, two of whom have loved ones buried in the same row at Oakwood Cemetery.
Corporal Mose Bean served in the Korean War. Sergeant Michael Anthony Ferrell served in the first Gulf War. They were separated by generations, but shared their honor of serving their country.
"I thank God that he had the opportunity to serve," said Peggy Bean, widow of Cpl. Bean. "And because of his sacrifice, and going to serve, we're able to enjoy the fruit of them serving in the war."
The Ferrell family has a tradition of service. Sgt. Ferrell's father, grandfather and several siblings all joined the Armed Forces.
"That's why it hurts me, we always loved our country," said William Ferrell, U.S. Navy (Ret.) "And we do what we can for the country. And hopefully everybody else would do the same."
Both families make it a point to visit their loved ones grave sites each Memorial Day.
