Twister heals Ala. town fractured over immigration

KILPATRICK, Ala. (AP) - For years before a tornado hit, Latin American immigrants living in a northeast Alabama town known as "Little Mexico" had little contact with the local English-speaking natives.

That has all begun to change in the months since a tornado hit.

When March's deadly twister destroyed homes in the town, officially known as Kilpatrick, people began working together to clear up storm debris without regard to language or culture.

Residents of both communities say that while they are still not the best of friends, there is a bond between them that didn't exist before.

Local pastor Zach Richards says it's a beautiful thing to see.
