Inmate from Houston Co. killed in fight at Bibb Correctional Facility

The Alabama Department of Corrections is searching for a weapon at the Bibb Correctional Facility after a Houston County man was killed during a fight on Sunday.

According to ADOC, 22-year-old Steven Edward Geiman was killed following an altercation at the facility around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 26.

Authorities say Geiman was stabbed to death.

At this time, Jefferson County man William D Gilchrist is being held as a suspect in connection with this incident.

The stabbing happened after a fight in the facility's inmate housing unit A on Sunday evening. No weapon has been recovered.

ADOC records show that Geiman was serving a 15 year sentence for domestic violence and sodomy out of Houston County - he was sentenced on October 19, 2011 and had served more than two years of his sentence.

Gilchrist is serving a 20 year sentence for assault, possession, and theft out of Jefferson County. He was sentenced on October 9, 2009 and has served four years of his sentence. 

At this time, the circumstances surrounding Geiman's death are being investigated by the ADOC's Investigation and Intelligence Division.

Bibb County Correctional Facility is a medium security facility housing approximately 1,948 inmates.  As of Tuesday, May 28, the facility remains on lock down with limited inmate movement as a precautionary measure.
