LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Not long after firefighters rescued a man from a burning house, one of their own was injured. A firefighter and person inside were transported by ambulance to the hospital early Friday morning after a Highlands house.

Crews resuscitated the man they pulled from the second story. Firefighters did not disclose his condition, age or name.

The firefighter was alert and talking before an ambulance transported him for evaluation. "He suffered some heat related injuries," Chief Gregory Frederick said.

The fire happened near Morton and Rubel Avenues. MetroSafe received a 911 call around 2 a.m. Firefighters brought the flames under control about an hour later.

"We've got about 33 firefighters on scene. We kept the fire from spreading to other buildings," Chief Frederick said.

Investigators suspect the ignition source was on the rear deck. Most of the roof collapsed and the second floor had serious damage.

Because of the fire, police detoured traffic on Morton Avenue throughout the morning.
