NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
A busy weekend of BMX racing had just wrapped up in Nashville when somebody stole a trailer full of equipment, and now there's a nationwide search to find the stuff and the thief.
Hundreds of people packed the BMX race course at Hamilton Creek last weekend for the Music City Nationals.
Then, late Sunday night, someone stole a trailer belonging to a young racer and his family from Illinois.
The trailer contained bikes, equipment and supplies for The Nationals Racing Team, which includes Murfreesboro parent Jason Wilson's three boys.
"For them to have to lose all of that at one time, I hate it," Wilson said. "You could be talking around $10,000 loss on this."
The owner of the trailer filed a police report, but for now it doesn't look good.
"It's just a shame to have them go through this stuff when they're just so willing to come out to the races and provide for everyone," Wilson said.
And the fact it happened close to Wilson's home turf, it seems, only makes it worse.
"I don't want it to represent badly on Nashville. That's not a bad place up there, but some bad people. And I hate that it had to happen to them," he said.
Metro police continue to work the case, but there is no surveillance video or witnesses.
The trailer looks silver on the front and black on the back.
It also has a lot of BMX race stickers on several sides.
If you spot it, call Metro police.
