Motorcyclist,16, dies after doing stunts in south Nashville

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A teenage motorcycle rider died after a reckless ride Thursday night, and police are looking for witnesses who may have seen the crash.

Just before 7:30 p.m., Michael Battle, 16, lost control and crashed in the 400 block of Chestnut Street.

It started when an officer spotted two motorcycles going the wrong way on Second Avenue South.

The officer lost sight of them but put out an alert to be on the lookout.

A short time later, someone saw the motorcycles jumping train tracks on Chestnut Street near Fourth Avenue South.

Battle, who wasn't wearing a helmet, lost control and was thrown from his bike.

Before medical personnel arrived, someone arrived at the scene in a black sport utility vehicle and put the motorcycle in the back of the vehicle. The SUV driver left the injured driver at the scene and left.

Battle suffered serious injuries and later died Friday morning.

Marijuana was found in Battle's possession. It has not yet been determined whether he was under the influence of anything at the time of the wreck.

Friday afternoon, a citizen called police to report she found the Battle's motorcycle in an alley not far from the scene.

At this point, police are still looking for that second motorcyclist and the person who took off with the bike.

They are hoping that will answer questions about what led up to the young man's death

Anyone with information is asked to call the Metro traffic unit at 862-7738 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
