Boys State, Girls State together for first time

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - More than 1,000 high school seniors are headed to the University of Alabama for Boys State and Girls State.

Activities begin Sunday in Tuscaloosa, with Gov. Robert Bentley scheduled to address the boys and Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey speaking to the girls. The activities continue through June 15 and will include mock elections and community service work.

University official John Lovett said this is the first year that Alabama Boys State and Girls State have been together on the same campus. The events are sponsored by the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary.
