PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) -

A Prattville police officer is recovering at home following a wreck that occurred during a suspect pursuit Tuesday night.

Authorities say the officer, unidentified, was transported to an area hospital after the crash ad was later released to recuperate at home.

Police Chief Mark Thompson said the officer initiated pursuit of a drug suspect and chased the vehicle down Old Ridge Road.

The officer lost control of their patrol unit and struck a concrete utility pole near East Memorial Baptist Church.

The suspect, also unidentified, was taken into custody after his family turned him in for questioning.

The Prattville Police Department is allowing the officer to rest at home and is not interrupting the officer's recovery at this time.

Officials say they will release additional information on the suspect Thursday.
