Authorities say the officer, unidentified, was transported to an area hospital after the crash ad was later released to recuperate at home.

Police Chief Mark Thompson said the officer initiated pursuit of a drug suspect and chased the vehicle down Old Ridge Road.

The officer lost control of their patrol unit and struck a concrete utility pole near East Memorial Baptist Church.

The suspect, also unidentified, was taken into custody after his family turned him in for questioning.
