NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police said a man with a knife showed up at a National Guard recruiting office in Nashville and threatened a staff sergeant.

Metro police said they were called to the office, located on Edge O' Lake Drive in Antioch, after a report that someone was waiving a weapon at a sergeant.

Metro police arrived and arrested the suspect, identified as Patrick F. Counts.

Witnesses said Counts told Sgt. Jay Johnson that he wanted to enlist in the service.

However, Johnson said he knew the suspect previously and asked him to leave. That's when Johnson said Counts pulled a knife on him and threatened him with it

The arrest report said Johnson feared injury, but it doesn't indicate that he was actually cut.

Counts is facing aggravated assault charges and was booked into the Metro Jail Tuesday afternoon, a couple of hours after the incident was reported.
