SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

A 15-year-old boy was slashed with a knife early Saturday morning while waiting in line for the release of new sneakers.

CBS 3 media partner Mass Live and The Republican reported the incident happened in front of the Expressions store on Liberty Street shortly after 3 a.m.

They said the victim was struck with a knife in the face and had his cell phone stolen.

Police said they arrested 20-year-old Carlos Jimenez not far from the scene and charged him with armed robbery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

He also had outstanding arrest warrants.
