Car thieves target Plaza condo, leave trail of damage behind

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Car break-ins happen all the time, but the reckless damage left behind at a Country Club Plaza condo has the victims in the gated lot even more angry.

The residents at Bella Condominiums at West 47th and Holly streets say they're shocked that no one heard any alarms go off, since so many cars hit had them.

The car thieves left behind quite a trail of damage.

"They broke into the passenger front side window, went through the glove box, went through the center console compartment," Coulter Somes said. "The first thing I saw is my wheels are gone, and I'm on cinder blocks."

When it dawned on Somes that this was the real deal.  He started looking around and found at least 14 other cars and trucks trashed.

"You see women coming out who are distraught and don't feel safe anymore. We have people who are angry," Somes said.

Somes said one of the selling points of the condos was the gated parking.

"I mean you're paying for a gated area, and you're supposed to be safe and safe with cameras," Somes said.

But the cameras weren't working, Somes said, which leaves residents hoping some other route will lead police to the people responsible.
