PEORIA, AZ (CBS5) -

A Peoria woman was in stable condition after surgery for a gunshot wound to the stomach early Tuesday morning.

Peoria police spokeswoman Amanda Jacinto said the 21-year-old woman and a man who lives with her in an apartment near U.S. Highway 60 and Peoria Avenue got into physical altercation about 3:30 a.m.

Two guests at the apartment tried to break up the fight, but a gun the 23-year-old man was holding fired, hitting the woman in the stomach.

Jacinto said police had not determined whether the shooting was intentional or accidental.

The investigation was continuing, Jacinto said.

No other information was immediately available.
