TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama athletic director Bill Battle isn't sure any football program has ever topped the Crimson Tide's current run of dominance.
That includes his own former coach Bear Bryant. Battle calls 'Bama's current run under Nick Saban of 3 national titles in four seasons unprecedented.
Battle told The Associated Press Wednesday that's because he doesn't believe "competition has ever been greater in the history of college football than it is today."
Bryant led the Tide to six national titles.
Battle took over a program that has collected national championships in five sports the past two years.
He says a friend likened the job to being inserted up front in the Daytona 500 and trying to hold on. Battle says he plans "to keep the pedal to the medal" and continue improving.
