GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

A man used a stolen handgun during a shootout with Glendale police that left one officer wounded and a police dog dead, investigators said Wednesday.

New details were released about Jourdan Akili Wagner, 20, who died after the June 20 exchange of gunfire. Officers were trying to arrest him following a foot chase.

Police said they now believe the pickup truck that Wagner was driving the night of the incident had been reported stolen about three hours earlier in the area of 8300 W. Coolidge in Phoenix.

A store clerk called police about 6:45 p.m., and asked officers to remove a man trespassing at a Circle K convenience store near 51st and Orangewood avenues.

An officer went to the store and contacted the suspect, who ran as soon as he went outside the store, Glendale police Officer Tracey Breeden said. More officers, including a K-9 officer and his dog, joined the chase.

Officers caught up with the suspect, hiding under a trampoline in the backyard of a home, and the police dog was sent after him.

The man showed his gun and officers fired.

The Glendale police officer who was wounded during a shootout, Wes Zygmont, has been released from the hospital and is continuing to recover at home. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, but his police dog died.

Detectives also said on Wednesday that evidence suggests the fatal shot that struck the Glendale police K-9 Ronin was not fired from any officers' weapons.

Arrangements for a public memorial for Ronin are still underway.
