Suspect beat, strangled sister's boyfriend, say police

SANTA FE, TN (WSMV) -

A Maury County man is accused of beating his sister's boyfriend so severely that the victim had to be taken to the hospital.

Robert Humphrey, 40, of Santa Fe, was charged Tuesday with aggravated assault and violating probation in connection with the incident.

Humphrey's sister got into an argument with her boyfriend, Joseph Steele, according to a report in the Columbia Daily Herald.

Police said Humphrey attacked and strangled Steele during the argument, which caused severe bleeding and bruising.

Humphrey was serving probation for another assault charge in April.
