Missing boater in Covington County found safe

COVINGTON CO., AL (WSFA) -

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sunday June 30,2013 Covington Co Sheriff's Office Deputies were dispatched to H&B Rd. off of Jody Wiggins Road to a report of a missing boater.

E911 received the call from a subject that stated they put the boat in at the landing on H&B Rd. on the Yellow River. The two had planned to float down the river to Cravey's Bridge. Shortly after entering the river the boat capsized and the caller, later identified as Roger Pace, 26, of Andalusia, had managed to swim back to shore.

Covington County Sheriff Dennis Meeks and Sheriff's Posse Capt. Joe Barton were able to launch a boat at the landing and found the other person about 400 yards downstream.

The Alabama Marine Police and Alabama Fresh Water Fisheries officers also put in a boat to assist in the rescue. The individual that was rescued was identified as Josh Nelson, 27, of Andalusia.

The Covington County Sheriff's office would like to emphasize that if you were going to be on the lakes and waterways of Covington County BE PREPARED!

Always have your life jackets, a cell phone, flashlight and other emergency supplies handy.
