ROSELAWN, OH (FOX19) -

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon for the P&G Cincinnati MLB Urban Youth Academy.

The facility will be located at Roselawn Park on Seymour Avenue. It will be a state-of-the-art facility providing free, year-round baseball and softball instruction and educational programs to Greater Cincinnati youth, ages 6 to 18.

Reds CEO Bob Castellini as well as players Joey Votto and Jay Bruce were on hand for the event. Joe Morgan and Marty Brennaman were also in attendance.

The complex will include four renovated fields and a 33,000 square foot building featuring batting cages, pitching tunnels and a full indoor field. The project completion is expected in the spring of 2015.

MLB Commissioner Bud Selig announced in January that Major League Baseball is committing $1.5 million to the development of the Urban Youth Academy. It's the sixth academy in the nation and first in the Midwest.

Former Red and MLB Executive Vice President of Baseball Development Frank Robinson will lead the academy.
