Fatal hit and run leaves newborn without her father

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A fatal hit and run in Wilmington at the end of June left a newborn without her father.

Bryan Copeland, 22, died from injuries sustained when he was hit by a vehicle while riding his moped near the intersection of Greenfield and S. 15th Streets Saturday afternoon.

Police charged Freddie Lee Riley, 48, with felony hit and run and misdemeanor death by vehicle in connection to the incident.

Copeland died less than a week after his daughter was born, according to Ricardo Martells who is friends with the baby's mother. Martells said Paris was born June 23.
