KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A man is recovering after being struck by a police car on the city's east side.

The man was struck shortly after 4:30 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of East 19th Street and Brighton Avenue.

Police said an officer on routine patrol was investigating an intoxicated person call in the neighborhood.

As the officer was turning the corner looking for the person, the officer's car struck the man as he was lying in the street.

Police said the officer was traveling about 5 mph at the time.

Police said the man suffered some cuts and abrasions but was in stable condition. He was taken to an area hospital to be checked out.
