CORDES JUNCTION, AZ (CBS5) -

A vehicle that caught fire on Interstate 17 northbound near Cordes Junction caused a six-mile backup for travelers on this holiday.

The Department of Public Safety said the northbound lanes were closed after the fire about 11:40 a.m. Thursday.

DPS said there were concerns of the fire spreading to nearby grass.

The incident is about five miles south of Cordes Junction and the intersection of State Route 69.

Everyone in the vehicle got out safely.

The left lane of I-17 northbound has reopened, but the right lane remains closed. There is no estimated time to fully reopen the interstate.
