KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

A man has been charged in the deadly stabbing of his sister over the weekend.

Wyandotte County prosecutors charged 44-year-old Vernon L. Travis with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Phyllis A. Travis as well as aggravated assault for allegedly threatening a different relative with a knife.

The stabbing was reported at a home just off of North 72nd Street on Waverly Avenue about 10:30 a.m. Saturday. When officers arrived they found 45-year-old Phyllis Travis dead on the floor from apparent stab wounds.

Police said they took her brother into custody as a person of interest - they found him walking about a block from the house a short time later.

Vernon Travis' bond is set at $750,000.
