Pilot makes emergency landing at downtown airport

Posted: Updated:

Some scary moments for a pilot forced him to make an emergency landing at Kansas City's downtown airport Saturday morning.

The home-built White Lightening WLAC, registered to a Peter Huff out of McKinney, TX, reported hydraulic problems and was cleared to land at the downtown airport.

Only partially down, the plane's landing gear collapsed when hitting the runway, causing a belly landing. The plan skidded safely to a stop.

The Kansas City Fire Department said there was some minor fuel spillage. The pilot was uninjured.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the incident is under investigation.
