LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Smoke continuing to billow from the Carpenter 1 wildfire in the mountains west of the Las Vegas valley prompted county officials to issue an air quality advisory.
The Clark County Department of Air Quality said the advisory is in effect beginning Monday and expiring on Sunday.
Officials cited the combination of smoke, weather conditions and existing levels of pollutants for the advisory.
Officials said unhealthy levels of air pollution were not expected to occur on Monday. Still, residents were being told to take caution during the advisory.
While the advisory is in effect, you should consider limiting strenuous outdoor activity, especially if you have a respiratory disease.
If you work outdoors, consider wearing a painter's mask or surgical mask. Also, keep your windows closed and run your air conditioner inside your house and car. It will filter out dust and particulates.
If you are suffering with itchy eyes, a runny nose or congestion, try over-the-counter or prescription allergy medication.
To reduce ground-level ozone, fill up your gas tank after sunset and plan your errands so they can be completed in one trip. Also, keep your car well maintained and consider using mass transit or carpooling.
