Victim's name released in fatal Fairfield Twp. shooting

FAIRFIELD TWP, OH (FOX19) -

We now know the name of a man killed Wednesday morning in Fairfield Township.

Officers were called to the 7800 block of Jessie's Way around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Investigators say Robert McCracken, 62, was shot in the chest at the Jessie's Landing apartment complex.

Police say the victim told his two roommates he heard someone outside. It's still unclear if the victim then went outside to check on his car and was shot outside or in his apartment entryway.

Authorities found the man dead inside the apartment. Police say other persons present at the time of the shooting are no longer considered suspects at this time.

This incident remains under investigation and has not been classified as a homicide, but a fatal shooting.

Police are awaiting the results of a toxicology report and a forensic examination from the Butler County Coroner's Office.
