KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A terrifying robbery at a Kansas City restaurant was caught on surveillance cameras.

It happened at the Huddle House near West 40th Street and Broadway Boulevard.

Employees hope someone will recognize the suspect. They are particularly asking others in the restaurant industry to check it out because of something unusual that he left behind.

The suspect placed an apron outside the restaurant before going in. He later used it to wipe down the cash register, carrying it at his side as he ordered the cook and server back to the walk-in fridge.

"I think he is a cook somewhere. He left an apron, kind of dirty, had some food on it. He left it in the back, and the police, they got that," co-owner Ahmed Abunamous said.

It was 6 a.m. Wednesday with no customers and a crew of two. The Westport restaurant's owner walked in just moments after the suspect walked out.

"That's when I walked in, two minutes later, and they told me they got robbed," Abunamous said.

Apron in hand, the suspect asked for a job application, then out came the gun.

The gunman then forced the cook face down on the floor while he emptied the cash drawer before eventually ordering them to the back for his escape.

"I feel so sorry about what happened, but I'm so happy no customers was (sic) around, and I am so happy that my employees did not get hurt. Nobody got hurt. Really, I do not care about the money. The money is not an issue to me as long as my employees are very safe," Abunamous said.

Abunamous said he told his employees he knows how it feels.

He was robbed twice at gunpoint, more than 20 years ago, when he was a clerk at a gas station in Houston.

Abunamous said it is the first time his restaurant had been robbed. It has been open for about eight months now.
