Metro police arrested a convicted felon early Sunday in connection with the beating death of a homeless man, whose body was found in a neighborhood near downtown Nashville.

According to investigators, James Bush, 37, was charged with criminal homicide in the death of Rex Dale Wilson, 58.

Police said during an interview with detectives, Bush admitted his involvement in the homicide.

Investigators said robbery may have been the motive.

Bush, of Trimble Street, has previous convictions for aggravated assault, assault of an officer, domestic assault, burglary, theft and DUI. He remained behind bars in lieu of $1.5 million bond.

Police officers and other emergency crews responded after Wilson's remains were discovered in an alley behind 26 Claiborne St. early Saturday.

According to Metro police, Wilson died after suffering some type of blunt force trauma to his head.

People were reportedly heard yelling in the alley at about 2:30 a.m.

"We're all here to enjoy life, and it's not fair to the people who's here for us to wake up and find tragedy in our neighborhood like this," said neighbor Nellie Nelson. "Something real tragic like this comes along, it makes you be really worried and concerned about not only your child but yourself too."

"I just walked outside this morning and looked to the left and saw the body," said neighbor Charles Jones. "I called 911. I'd never seen him before, and I've lived here six years."

"There is foul play involved," said Lt. Randy Alexander of the Metro Police Dept. "There are indications this is definitely going to be a homicide at this point. There were no calls of disturbances or fights or anything of that nature in the nighttime hours that may be related to this."

Neighbors tell Channel 4 the victim had been seen walking along the street in the past, though no one said they knew him personally.

"We're not going to have any peace over here, until we can get our neighborhood cleaned up," said Nelson. "We need someone to help us clean our neighborhood up here."
