LEBANON, TN (WSMV) -

A teen has been found dead a week after he went missing while swimming on Old Hickory Lake.

James Davis Jr., 15, and two other teenagers jumped off a cliff July 14 near a boat ramp on Orian Lane outside Lebanon at Hunters Point Access Area.

Two of the teens were unhurt, but Davis, a sophomore at Lebanon High School, was not seen after the jump.

On Saturday, crews confirmed they recovered the missing teen's body four miles downstream.

Crews with Wilson and Trousdale counties, along with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, all helped search in the days following the drowning.

"It's just a real dangerous area, and it's a gathering point for teenagers. It's in a secluded area, it's hard to patrol and, really, some type of barricade or something needs to be put up here," said Wilson County Sheriff Robert Bryan.

Drownings and swimming mishaps have happened far too often recently in Middle Tennessee despite constant warnings from emergency responders.

Last month, a man drowned at Percy Priest Lake, and another died last week after swimming at the Stones River in Murfreesboro, where crews made four water rescues in four days.

Officials say debris on the water, along with sharp, jagged rocks and fallen trees below the surface, can pose deadly for those who choose to jump into the water.

"You could very easily jump onto a rock the size of a car," said TWRA officer Eric Anderson.

The Wilson County Sheriff's Department added there has been some discussion with the Corps of Engineers to possibly put up some fencing or warning signs under the bridge, where the teens were swimming.
