Opryland Hotel prepares for annual Christmas celebration

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

It's the middle of summer, but Gaylord Opryland is already planning its annual Christmas celebration.

On Wednesday, Opryland officials unveiled their lineup for this year's A Country Christmas celebration, the 30th year for the popular event.

Horticulturists have begun stringing 2 million all-new LED Christmas lights outdoors; a process that will take several months to complete.

"In the 30 years since A Country Christmas was first conceived, Gaylord Opryland Resort has established itself as favorite holiday destination for millions," said Gaylord Opryland General Manager Pete Weien in a news release. "From acres of breathtaking decorations, horse-drawn carriages, and exclusive holiday events and attractions, each year brings more magic and beloved traditions that keep families returning time and time again."

Gaylord Opryland's signature ICE! attraction will have 2 million pounds of colorful ice sculptures with a theme of Frosty the Snowman. ICE! will include hand-carved sculptures by 40 Chinese artisans.

The Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes also returns to the Grand Ole Opry.

The exhibit will open in Nov. 15 and run through New Year's Day.

This year, the hotel is adding a fundraiser called Canvas for a Cause, in which celebrity artwork will be auctioned off for charity.

Also new is the 'Not So Silent Night' concert featuring a host of artists, including Diana DeGarmo, Collin Raye and a host of others.

Tickets for each of these events are now on sale.
