MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A Mid-South mother has an incredible story to share after delivering her own baby in a car.

It happened in Crockett County, Tennessee.

Three day old Caileigh may be quiet now, but it is quite the opposite of how she came into this world early Monday morning.

"It was like 1:20 in the morning and I was feeling moderate contractions. They weren't anything real painful so I thought we still had time," explained Lindsey French.

But when her baby's head made its way into the world, she knew there was not enough time to make it to a hospital.

French says once they realized they couldn't get to Jackson, her husband pulled over and got out to find help. While her husband was gone, she delivered the baby in the front seat of the car.

"My first instinct was grab her and put her on my chest and make sure she was alive," French recalled. "So I grabbed her and put her on my chest and tried to see if she was alive or whatever, and I heard her whimper."

Caileigh was alive and healthy. EMTs arrived shortly thereafter, wrapped her up in a blanket, and loaded her and her mother into an ambulance.

"She's perfectly fine, didn't even need suction," said French. "Come out sucking her fingers and kicking so she was, she's perfectly healthy."

Happy, healthy, and now adjusting to two brothers.

"Crazy after having two boys, having a girl," French said.

Crazy may only begin to describe the story they will be telling Caileigh about the day she came into the world.

"Words can't express, it's just crazy that something this perfect would have come out perfectly healthy," said French.
