MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

An inmate who escaped from a work release center in Montgomery has been captured, but not before allegedly stealing a car and robbing two convenience stores.

On July 20th, at approximately 10:38 p.m., inmate Shannon Loyd Crumpton, 36, was unaccounted for during an institutional count at the Red Eagle Work Release Center near Montgomery. Crumpton could not be located during a subsequent ADOC search of the location. He was last seen during a previous count at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Crumpton is described as 6 feet tall, weighing 165 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. Records show he was sentenced out of Shelby County on February 23, 2004, and is serving a 22 year sentence for robbery and forgery. A scheduled parole hearing for May of 2013 had not been held.

WSFA 12 News Raycom sister station, WBRC, reports that Crumpton had been on the run since Saturday and authorities believe he may have robbed two convience stores. Around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, officers in Shelby County saw what they thought was a car Shannon Crumpton stole in Clanton. They tried to stop it, but the driver got away.
