MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

On Saturday July 20th, WSFA 12 News was honored with multiple awards by the Associated Press at the organization's annual banquet and award ceremony in Birmingham, AL. WSFA 12 News competed against Alabama stations in these award categories from the Huntsville, Montgomery, and Dothan markets.

WSFA 12 News's commitment to deliver news and information to the viewers and residents of central Alabama that is Live, Local, and Now, was recognized by the Associated Press as the station received team awards for Best Investigative Reporting (President Silver/Alabama State University Controversy); Best Extraordinary Coverage of a Planned Event (Alabama Wins the National Title), Best Series (April 27th: One Year Later). The WSFA 12 News Photojournalist Team was honored with the Victor Irving Best Staff Photography Award and an individual award for Stan Tarilton Best Photographer was bestowed upon Andre Morgan.

Other individual honors were award to WSFA 12 News Team Members Max Reiss (Best Specialized Reporter), Derek Steyer (Best Sports Anchor), Jennifer Oravet (Best Reporter), and the WSFA 12 News Digital Team was recognized for their efforts in Best Web Journalism.

WSFA 12 News Director Scott Duff congratulated the total team effort and commitment of the staff of WSFA 12 News and added, "It is just tremendous the Associated Press has honored our news team with these awards. The awards signify the commitment we have at WSFA 12 News to be a shining example of excellence in journalism as our station serves the River Region. We have an amazing news team that is the very best in Alabama and I am extremely proud to work with this very talented group of journalists."   

WSFA 12 News continues to be recognized as one of the top Television Stations in Alabama and was honored with one of the highest awards given by the Associated Press: Outstanding News Operation. This is the second consecutive year that WSFA 12 News has been recognized with this award.

Upon receiving the awards Vice President/General Manager Collin R. Gaston commented, "Being named the Outstanding News Operation and also receiving recognition in nine other news operation areas is tremendously exciting and humbling.  It serves as a testament to our mission and the great work of everyone on the team at WSFA 12 News."
