PHOENIX (CBS5) -

HLN anchors Nancy Grace and Jane Velez-Mitchell have been identified as the targets of online threats made by a New York man upset by the way they covered the Jodi Arias trial.

David Lee Simpson, 48, of Bath, NY, is facing several charges, including stalking and computer tampering.

Simpson waived extradition and arrived in Phoenix Wednesday evening.

After landing on a flight from Philadelphia, Simpson allegedly told his deputy escort that he had placed three pipe bombs in a Pennsylvania river.

"We feel this was a very dangerous character," said Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio after Simpson was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail.

Investigators say he's obsessed with Jodi Arias, and didn't like how Grace and Velez-Mitchell covered the trial.

Police say they found guns, ammunition, handcuffs, zip ties, a police scanner and a knife in his car.

he was apprehended by local authorities in New York this past Saturday after quitting his job at an auto repair shop and telling coworkers he was "leaving town."

"And he's leaving town heading south. Where you think he was going? He wasn't going hunting. Not for deer," said Arpaio.

During the Jodi Arias trial, Simpson tweeted out, of Velez-Mitchell and Grace, that he wanted to tie them to a tree naked and leave them all night to suffer before "slitting their throats."

The CNN TV hosts weren't the only ones threatened during the Arias trial. Scottsdale psychologist Doctor Richard Samuels was among several witnesses who were threatened.
Samuels tells CBS 5, he feels the Sheriff's office worked diligently to get to the bottom of the threats.

"We had two (threats) and we developed it out of state and it turned out to be nothing," said Arpaio.

Simpson faces a possible prison sentence of up to seven years.
