Volunteers headed to Harlan, Ky. to help those in need

(FOX19) -

Volunteers from the Tri-State are taking an outreach trip to Harlan, Kentucky and putting on a health and wellness fair this weekend.

Organizers say Harlan County, Kentucky is one of the poorest counties in the United States, based on median household income.

Most of the volunteers are from Christ Hospital, in partnership with Celebration Baptist Church. Doctors, dentists and barbers will provide services to people in need.

Volunteers are also bringing a truckload of donated supplies, including food, clothing and health supplies.

The health and wellness fair will be held Friday and Saturday at Harlan High School, and they expect to serve approximately 4,000 people.

Christ Hospital volunteers say this is the 16th year they have done an outreach trip to Harland, Kentucky.
