The State of Alabama Thursday evening executed a death row inmate who was convicted in the Halloween night 2005 death of an elderly man.

Authorities confirm Andrew Lackey was put to death by lethal injection at Holman Prison in Atmore. Lackey's family members visited him one last time Tuesday.

The inmate was convicted of robbing and killing Charles Newman, 80, inside the man's Athens area home on October 31, 2005.

The official time of death was listed as 6:25 p.m.

Lackey is the first inmate to be executed in Alabama in 2 years.
