ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

A man who authorities said removed a child from a pickup truck before stealing it from an Athens gas station Sunday afternoon, has been arrested.

Steven Michael Lewter, 34, was arrested Monday night on theft and robbery charges. Investigators said he was in possession of a bus ticket to Florida.

According to police, Lewter took an eleven-year-old child out of the truck before driving off. The child is safe and no injuries were reported.

Police said the investigation remains active since the stolen truck has not been found.

Authorities are searching for a yellow 2001 Ford Ranger Edge with a University of Alabama sticker in the back window that was taken from a gas station at the corner of Highway 72 and Cloverleaf Drive.
