MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A homicide suspect is now behind bars and Montgomery police say the motivation behind the murder was a $20 drug debt.

Montgomery police responded to the Diplomat Inn on Norman Bridge Rd. shortly after 5 p.m. Monday where they found 33-year-old Ernest Belser dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police believe Belser's death was the result of an ongoing altercation with the suspect, 26-year-old Amendo Smith.

Smith turned himself in to police in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

He is now charged with capital murder and is being held at Montgomery County Detention Facility without bond.

Belser's death is Montgomery's 33rd homicide of 2013.
