Woman kidnapped from hospital, forced to withdraw money from ATM

OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

Police say a woman was kidnapped from an Overland Park hospital complex and forced to withdraw money from a bank in Leawood.

The woman had her young child with her.

A second man is believed to be involved. The two men then went on a crime spree and attempted to rob two other women.

Overland Park police say the woman was kidnapped from a parking lot at the Menorah Medical Center complex, which is at 119th Street and Nall Avenue. Her kidnapper had a handgun and forced her to drive to a bank.

The victim was forced to withdraw money from an ATM at a Commerce Bank at 114th Street and Nall, police told KCTV5.

The woman was returned to the hospital parking lot where she was released with no physical harm, police said. The woman was quite shaken up and the child was frightened.

The woman said she was kidnapped about 10:30 a.m. Friday. Because her child was with her, the woman apparently followed the armed man's directions, police said.

"She's fine and that's what's important," Overland Park police Officer Michelle Koos said.

Police are reviewing surveillance video between the hospital and Commerce Bank, which also both have surveillance cameras.

Menorah officials said they are cooperating with police.

"We are committed to working with the Overland Park Police Department in resolving this matter," said Amy Leiker, vice president of communications. "We are grateful no one was harmed and are committed to maintaining the safe environment of our campus that includes 24-hour security and surveillance for our patients and visitors."
