OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) -

Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller announced Monday that Pharmavite will be investing more capital into the manufacturing facility in Opelika to accommodate demand for additional products.

Pharmavite is one of the nation's largest manufacturers of high quality vitamins, minerals and other dietary supplements. The company plans to invest an additional $16.6 million and hire 17 employees over the next two years.

Pharmavite announced the decision to locate in Opelika in September 2011. They have been producing product at the Opelika facility since January of this year. The initial investment in the Opelika facility was $73 million and they currently have 245 associates.

"This is good news for Opelika," said Mayor Fuller. "Pharmavite officials have been pleased with their operations in Opelika and this additional investment is a testament to their success and need for additional capacity."

"Our expectations since we started building this facility and began production this year have been exceeded," said Lance Buchanan, Opelika Site Director for Pharmavite.  "The support we receive from the community leaders reinforces the fact that we made the right choice when we selected Opelika in 2011."
