BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A Birmingham Fire Department truck attempting to drive under a bridge slammed into the overpass because it was too tall to pass beneath.

The truck is a logistics truck used to deliver supplies to fire stations. It was trying to drive under the bridge on 1st Avenue South at the 21st Street overpass on Tuesday morning just before 8 a.m. when it ran into the bridge, damaging the back half of the truck. The bridge has a vertical clearance of 7'7".

BFD Fire Marshall and Battalion Chief C.W. Mardis said there were no injuries and crews worked quickly to clear the debris.

Don Lupo with the city of Birmingham says the bridge has been inspected and there was no damage to the structure.
