LT. Gov. Kay Ivey appointed co-chair National Military affairs committee

From: The Lieutenant Governors office;

Lieutenant Governor Kay Ivey has been tapped to Co-Chair the National Lieutenant Governor's Association (NLGA) State Strategies in Military Affairs committee by NLGA Chair Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor Todd Lamb.

The newly-formed committee is a forum for lieutenant governors to collectively advance conversation and knowledge about the effect on states of federal actions related to the military, such as the Base Realignment and Closure process (BRAC) and sequestration.

"Alabama has seen the positive and negative effects of changes to our military installations, so I feel confident I can bring that knowledge to the table when discussing the matter on a national level," said Lieutenant Governor Ivey. "Our military installations play a crucial role in our state and national defense and are an economic driving force.  I am deeply involved in efforts to protect and maintain Alabama's military assets as Chair of the Military Stability Commission, so I was very pleased to be asked to serve as co-chair of the committee to help strengthen the military at home and across the country," said Lieutenant Governor Ivey.

Members of the committee will work in conjunction with other state leaders and federal delegations on pressing military issues within a state or region.  Montana Lieutenant Governor John Walsh will also serve as Co-Chair of this important committee.

NLGA is the professional association providing research and issue exchange opportunities to the officeholders first in line of succession to governor in all 50 states and the U.S. territories.
