LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Federal agents busted an alleged murder for hire plot after a woman met with who she thought was a hit man.

Elizabeth Stakelbeck, 34, is accused of meeting with an undercover FBI agent to have her ex-husband and his wife killed.

Stakelbeck is accused of negotiating payment for the "hit man" to kill her ex-husband and his current wife. Officers said the payment decided upon was prescription narcotics, which Stakelbeck gave the officer in their original containers with her name and address printed on the bottles.

The arresting deputy suggested Stakelbeck's bond be set at a high amount "due to [the] nature of the attempted crime [and] due to the suspect's statements of harming herself and taking her own child's life rather than letting [her] ex-husband get custody."

A close friend, who requested only her first name be used, visited Stakelbeck's home and discovered she was incarcerated. "I'm just shocked. I talked to her yesterday," Angela said.

"Angela" admitted Stakelbeck has been in a bitter custody dispute with her ex-husband. "He's really been putting her under a lot of stress. She's lost a 100-pounds and went from a size 14 to a 4," she said.

Stakelbeck is charged two counts of criminal solicitation to commit murder and one count of trafficking in a controlled substance.
