Hundreds of people remember Katelyn Markham at service

FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

Family members and friends gathered in bright colors to mirror the positive memory of a woman who was found dead earlier this year.

Loved ones and supporters of Kate Markham met early on Sunday afternoon at Fairfield High School Performing Arts Center to honor her life and memory.

The memorial drew hundreds of people, many of who have never had a chance to meet Markham.

"Katelyn's my angel. She brought me help. My son was missing before she was and I came to learn about searching and help find Katelyn and help her father and hopefully got help for my own self and I sure did," said Debbie Estes, a family supporter.

Dave Rader who formed the Ohio chapter of Texas Equusearch says Katelyn's disappearance in August of 2011 galvanized a community to search for her.

"It's humbling because you go into a scenario that nobody knows this girl....just a few and people just come out of the woodwork to help out in any way they can," said Rader.

Markham went missing in 2011 and her skeletal remains were found near Big Cedar Creek in Franklin, IN on Sunday, April 7, 2013.

Earlier this month, authorities ruled Markham's death a homicide, but they still do not know how she died or who is responsible for her death.

Markham's loved ones were strongly affected, including her finance, John Carter.

When Carter spoke at the podium to reflect about his relationship with Markham he said, "We would've had our marriage, we would've had our honeymoon, we would've have had our kid and we would've had our life."

Katelyn's life was brutally cut short and Dave Rader says friends and family are looking for answers.

"We're two thirds of the way there, said Radar. "All we need to do now is find the person that did this to her and that will be the closure that the family needs."

In the meantime, John Carter's cousin, Gabrielle Keller, says the memorial has given them some comfort.

"It's been really good. Having all these people definitely helps," said Keller.

The family is hosting a private memorial and funeral service Monday.

Anyone with information surrounding Katelyn Markham's murder is urged to call Indiana State Police or Crime Stoppers.
