Police: Women kick, beat dog in front of officers

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Decatur police arrested two women after witnessing them beating a dog, according to investigators.

According to the police report, an officer was conducting a routine traffic stop on Beech St. SE Wednesday when he saw two women sitting on the front porch of a house nearby.

That's when the officer said he witnessed Amanda Peebles kick the side of a small dog twice. Then, another woman, Tracy Orr, picked up a metal object and hit the dog in the side of the head, causing the dog to fall to the ground, according to police.

After checking on the dog and speaking to the women, officers placed Peebles and Orr under arrest for second degree cruelty to animals.

The dog was taken from the home and placed in the custody of Decatur Animal Services. Authorities say the boxer mix is in good spirits and is playful. He is on hold pending the outcome of the investigation.
